17 - The Richman and Lazarus

Notes for Servants 

i What is the sacrifice that you can offer to the poor and needy?  

i Do you offer the tithes of your time, health, or at least your money to God? i What is your aim in this offering? Is it the world glory or in secret to worship God? 

Objectives 

General: Neglecting helping the poor and the needy is a sin. 

Specific: 

The children will be able to ... 

  1. Learn the meaning of the two words “poor and needy.” 
  2. Be merciful to the poor and the needy. 
  3. Know how to help who needs help. 

Bible Verse 

“Now he is comforted and thou art tormented.” 

(Luke 16:25 ) 

Teaching Aids 

None. 

Instruction 

(1) Review last week's lesson. 

(2) Who remembers the verse? 

(3) Remind the children about the church occasions for the coming week. 

(4) The Servant introduces to this story by mentioning to the kids about the poor and the rich situation ... help the children in describing the rich situation... beautiful houses... servants... busy with his money daily morning and night... their food and clothing ... etc. 

(5) The Servant describes Lazarus’ situation in his food ... his clothes ... sitting at the rich man’s gate ... his desire to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man stable ... The rich rejected Lazarus cruelly ... The dogs licked the poor's sores ... Ask the children: How was the rich situation on earth? How was Lazarus’ situation? Is this life eternal?

Story Time 

Read the story from the Bible. 

The servant should explain how the people of the world deal with the death of each of them and how the heavenly deal with both of them. 

The beggar died ... nobody celebrated him on earth, but the angels did carry him to Abraham's bosom because he used to pray and glorify God. 

The rich man died ... all the country celebrated him ... they cried for him ... they shrouded him ... they went out and bid him farewell to the grave with musical instruments ... The great men of the country ... the religious men ... the friends ... the neighbours ... the relatives ... he is in torments in Hades. what did happen in heaven? 

The rich man's sorrow when he lifted his eyes up ... saw the poor man in Abraham's bosom. He regreted what he did because of his hard heart and not having sympathy on others and enjoying his live without caring for others. 

1 - What was the punishment of the rich man? and why? 

2 - Describe the situation of the rich man and Lazarus in the other life. 

Discussion 

1 - Follow up the story by talking about it with the children. 

2 - Continue the discussion while they do the activity.
