Story Time
Jesus travelled from town to town talking about God's kingdom. One day His disciples and many other people gathered around Him to hear this parable.
"A farmer went out to plant his seeds. Some of the seeds fell on the footpath and were trampled on. Soon birds came and ate those exposed seeds. Other seeds landed in shallow rocky soil where they sprouted and then withered for lack of moisture. Some seeds landed in thorn bushes and were choked out as soon as they grew. Some of the seeds fell on fertile soil. They grew and produced a good crop. In fact, the crop was a hundred times bigger than the farmer had planted."
Jesus explained, "The seed is God's message. The hard path represents the hard hearts of those who hear God's message; then the devil comes and steals it away, so they are unable to believe and be saved. The stony ground represents people who like hearing God's message, but they never let it sink in and affect their lives. The thorny ground represents those who hear God's message, but let riches, pleasures, and worries choke out the message. The good Soil represents those who hear God's message with open hearts. They believe it and accept it, and their lives are changed."
