02 - Who Are The Saints
Introduction:
Learn that Saints are close to Jesus in heaven and they pray for us. We are celebrating El-Nayrouz feast and practicing saying it. El-Nayrouz is the time we remember all the saints.
Lesson Outline:
Saints are people who loved Jesus so much more than anything else. They were willing to give up everything for Him. For that, they are so special to Jesus and they are always interceding on our behalf. We have pictures of the saints in our houses so we can talk to them and we can always ask them to pray with us.
St. George has a white horse, a spear and wears a helmet in his picture because he was a soldier. The king wanted him to not love Jesus but St. George did not listen to him no matter what the king did. There is also St. Mina the martyr. In his picture, he has two camels and he wears a cape because he was like a mayor. St. Mary the mother of Jesus is also so special she loves us like she loved baby Jesus. St. Pishoy was a monk, he spent all his life praying to God and teaching other monks how to pray and love and care for each other. Jesus visited St. Pishoy and he washed Jesus’ feet and this is what we can see in his picture. St. George, st. Mina, St. Mary, St. Pishoy and many other saints in our church are very close to Jesus and are very happy in paradise singing with the angels. They like to pray for us.
Our Church here is called St. Mary church, because we love St. Mary and we ask her to pray for our church. When we pray at night and in the morning, we can say at the end of our prayers: “Please St. Mary, St. George, St. Mina, St. Pishoy and all the other saints pray for us”.
God loves us so much and He wants us to be like these saints that we see in the pictures. We put their pictures in our houses and in the church. Saints can be our friends. We can pick one or more, and we can always talk with them and ask them to help us.
Activity:
Play guess the saint (one of the saints in the lesson). If you have a picture of another saint at home and would like to share with other friends that would be great.
Memory Verse:
“Let the saints be joyful” Psalms 149:5 (NKJV)
