36 - Obedience

Introduction

When Mom and Dad tell us to be nice to people, what do we do? When our teacher tells us to help our friends, what do we do? When a Sunday school teacher tells us to sit nicely at church, what do we do? When God tells us to love each other, what do we do? Good things happen to us when we listen to God, our parents and our teachers.

Lesson Outline

Once upon a time, an old man had two girls, Mariam and Rebecca. Their Dad always told them to help people and to be kind to everyone. Mariam listened to her Dad but Rebecca was not a good listener. One day, they ran out of water. Dad asked Mariam and Rebecca to go fill up a big jar with water from far away. Mariam said OK but Rebecca did not listen. Mariam took the jar and walked a long way and filled up the jar. On her way back, she met an old man. He asked her to give him a drink. Mariam remembered that Dad told her to help others. Because she was a good listener, she gave the man a drink. He drank all the water and she had to go back to fill the jar again. On her way back, she met an old lady. The lady asked Mariam to give her water to drink. Mariam remembered that Dad told her to help others. She gave the lady a drink. The lady drank all the water and Mariam had to go back to fill the jar again. Finally, on her way back, she met a boy and he asked her to give him a drink. Mariam was so tired but she remembered that she had to listen to what her dad told her. She gave the boy a drink and after he drank, the boy became an angel and said to Mariam, “because you are a very good girl and you always listen to your dad, every week something good will happen to you and you will always be happy”. Mariam ran to her house and told the story to her dad. Her sister Rebecca was very sad because she did not listen to her dad and she did not go to get the water with Mariam. Mariam told Rebecca that if she listens and becomes a good girl, God will forgive her and good things will happen to her too. We always have to be good listeners so that God will always be happy with us. God wants us to sit nicely in the church and we need to listen. God wants us to listen to our parents and we have to always obey him. Listening to our parents and to God shows how much we love them.
