Introduction
Babies can not take care of themselves but God gives them Mom and Dad to take care of them. God always takes care of us and keeps us safe.
Lesson Outline
Pharaoh was afraid that the Israelites or Hebrews, as the Egyptians called them, would grow powerful and rise up against him. So, he took away their freedom. The Egyptians forced the Hebrews to work for them and set people to watch over them. They made them work hard in the fields and build great cities. The Egyptians made life very hard for the Israelites. The Israelites became slaves to the Egyptians. The Israelites grew in number.
One day, Pharaoh wanted to get rid of all baby boys that are born for the Israelite. At that time there was a woman of the family of Levi who had a baby son. She hid him until he was three months old. Then, she made a basket, covered it and put the baby in it. She placed it at the water's edge and hid it among the tall grasses that grew there. The baby's sister Miriam stayed nearby to see what would happen.
Pharaoh's daughter came to wash herself in the river. When she saw the basket, she sent one of her servants to bring it to her. Then, she opened the basket and the baby started to cry. Miriam came over and asked, "Shall I find a nurse to take care of the baby for you?"
Pharaoh's daughter answered, "Yes." Miriam brought her own mother. Pharaoh's daughter said, "Take this child and look after him and I will pay you. He is truly a handsome child."
So, the baby’s mom took her child home and cared for him. When he grew older he went to live with Pharaoh's daughter in the palace. She loved him and treated him as her own son. She named him Moses.
