Story Time
In the days of Jesus, there lived a young boy, who was deaf and dumb. His friends were sad because of his miserable state. They wanted to tell him about Jesus but he could not understand. Once, a few of the boy’s friends decided they must do something. They discussed it and in the end, they decided to take him to Jesus.
"Where is Jesus?" The first one asked.
"I heard that he is now on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee."
"Jesus has healed a mad man there."
"You are right! I also heard about this miracle."
They all agreed to take their friend to Jesus, but meanwhile, the boy was in deep thought. "What are my friends talking about? O Lord, if only I was able to listen to what they are saying!" The boy’s friends smiled to him and began leading him by the hand to Jesus.
The friends reached Jesus in the middle of a large crowd of people who were all gathered around to see and hear this great man. "Please heal our friend and make him well. He is dumb and deaf. We are sure that you will heal him," said one of the friends.
Jesus gave the boy a loving, kind look and smiled to him. The boy looked at the faces of his friends in an attempt to understand the conversation between his friends and Jesus. Jesus took the deaf and mute boy by the hand away from the crowd, put his fingers to the boys' ears and touched his tongue. Then, Jesus looked up to heaven, gave a deep groan and said to the boy, "Ephphatha" which means ‘open up’. The boy was able to hear and speak just as the others did.
The boy’s heart was filled with joy and he said, "I thank Thee Lord. O Jesus, I thank Thee now for my ears that now hear and for my tongue that can now speak." The people who saw the miracle glorified God saying, "He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."
