In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, One God, Amen

Lesson No. ( 40 )

References

The book of Job.

Notes for Servants

i How have you reacted when you were in serious trouble? Would you murmur against the Lord? Would your heart turn away from Him? Or would you submit to Him and endure your suffering? i While in trouble, do you feel the hand of God always supporting and helping you, so you will be

comforted and secured? Or do you feel the opposite and in this case suffer from anxiety? i Do you feel that the Lord will deliver you from your pains and that His love for you will make your suffering bearable and endurable?

Objectives

General: Learn to be patient and endure.

Specific: The children will be able to:

  1. Know that steadfastness (patience) does not mean weakness or laziness, but it means submission to the Lord's will while we work and struggle;
  2. Learn that like Job, while in trouble, we might be also afflicted by some members of our families or be disturbed by what some friends might say or do;
  3. Accept these temptations as a test from the Lord, and remember that while we are tested He is always there to protect us.

Bible Verse

"But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."

(James 1:4)

Teaching Aids

Story Time

Job was an upright and firm man in the sight of the Lord. He had seven sons and three daughters. He owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, one thousand head of cattle and five hundred donkeys in addition to a large number of servants. Job's sons used to take turns to give a feast, which everyone would attend.

The Lord praised Job for his faithfulness, but Satan knew that Job was faithful to the Lord because he was rich. The Lord allowed Satan to take all of what Job had. The news came to Job that his cattle had been taken away, his servants had been killed, and all his sheep and camels had been killed. News came to him that his house was blown down and his sons and daughters were all killed. Job said, "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord." In all this, Job did not sin.

The Lord allowed Satan again to hurt Job's body, but not to hurt his life. Satan caused sores to break out all over Job's body from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head. Job sat among ashes. His wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die."  But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and not receive evil?"

Job's three friends came to console and comfort him. As they talked, Job’s friends began to say false things about God and tell Job that he was being punished for doing evil. Job began to question God. Suddenly, from a mighty storm, the Lord answered Job and spoke to him. The Lord said, "Who are you to questionMywisdomwithyour ignorant, empty words?" Job said, "I am ashamed of all I have said and repent in dust and ashes." Job submitted himself completely to the Lord and acknowledged his sin and weakness.

The Lord said to Job's friends, "Take seven bulls and seven rams to Job and offer them as a sacrifice for yourselves. Job will pray for you and I will answer his prayer and not disgrace you as you deserve. You did not speak the truth about me as he did."

The Lord restored Job to his former condition with even greater prosperity than before. God allowed Job to own 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 3,000 head of cattle and 1,000 donkeys and Job became the father of seven sons and three daughters. He lived 140 years after this, long enough to see the next four generations of his family.
