Story Time

The Magi returned by another route. Herod was surrounded by his ministers and leaders in the palace. They were all upset. He was walking to and fro. They asked him, but he did not answer. Days went by. They all felt that the king was confused. One day he realized that the Magi would not come back. He sent his leaders to Bethlehem. "Kill the children who are two years old or under." They asked why, but he refused to answer. They understood. They did not want to do that but he insisted.

  1. Why was Herod upset?
  2. When did he send soldiers to kill the children?
  3. What was the purpose by so doing?
  4. Why did he say "two years and under"?

A group of soldiers and officers went there. The city was in great disorder. What happened? The orders were issued. Mothers tried to escape but they could not. The soldiers divided the city. They killed the children. Cries were heard in every house. People cursed the tyrant. People said the Christ had fled. They went back to Herod. (Explain what happened during the meeting and how Herod was disappointed). 1. What did the soldiers do?

  1. Was the king pleased? Why?

Our God is a God of peace, He tried to give us a good lesson of peace making. If you feel you have trouble somewhere, stay away from this place. There was trouble in Bethlehem and baby Jesus might get killed, then Joseph, flee to Egypt. There might be some troublesinJudea where the violent King was, then Joseph go to Nazareth.

Joseph did not act as a coward, but indeed as a peaceful man obeying God's orders. So are you, you should be smart and stay away from troubles and troublesome places...., bad companies..., unsuitable books, magazines, T.V. programs, .... even thoughts.

Listen to God's words & directions that you may hear through the Bible, the Church, your confession father, & your Sunday School.

  1. Why did the Holy Family flee into Egypt?
  2. What happened to the idols when Christ entered Egypt?

Discussion

1 - Follow up the story by talking about it with the children.

2 - Continue the discussion while they do the activity.
