Story Time
Adam and Eve lived outside the Garden of Eden and the number of people increased. Unfortunately, most people became evil, and did not obey God. After many years, there was only one family that worshipped, obeyed, and loved God. This family included Noah, his wife, and their three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
God became displeased with the people and said to Noah, "You are a good hearted man and I am pleased with you because you are faithful and sincere. However, everyone except your family has become very evil,so I will destroy them with a flood. I want you to build an ark containing three decks." Noah and his sons worked hard and made the big ship God had commanded Noah to assemble. Many people asked Noah what he was doing and Noah told them that God would destroy the world with a flood if the population did not repent. The people laughed at him and mocked him saying, "That crazy man, Noah, is building an ark in the centre of the town!"
Noah went on with his work until he finally finished 120 years later. Can you imagine how big it was? At last, the day appointed for the flood arrived. God said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and all your household. Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate; and a pair of the animals that are not clean, male and his mate; and seven pairs of the birds of the air also, male and female, to keep their kind alive upon the face of all the earth."
Noah asked the Lord, "How can I gather all these animals and birds?"
The Lord said to him, "Stand by the door of the ark and I will send you all the animals and birds." When they all went into the ark, there were eight people: Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives. Noah warned the people to repent but the people did not care. The Lord then shut the door of the ark so no one could either enter in or go out.
Rain began to fall, all the floodgates of the skywere opened and rain fell upon the earth. There was enough water for the ark to float. People ran to the ark but the Lord had sealed the door shut. People searched in vain for a place to protect them but neither high buildings nor mountains, nor could anything save them. The flood continued for forty days.
Noah sent out a raven after a long period of time, but the raven did not come back. Thenhe sent out a dove and it returned to him with a fresh olive branch in it's beak, as it could not find a place to alight. Noah sent out the dove once more and this time it did not come back. By this, Noah understood that plants had appeared. Soon, the ark came to rest on Mount Ararat.
