(3) Remind the children about the church occasions for the coming week.

(4) The servant should explain that we always keep our homes clean. We fix any thing broken and we try to make our homeslook nice and feel comfortable. What about the house of God? Do we keep it clean? Do we try to repair anything damaged? How do we treat the church?

Story Time

Josiah, the king was a young man, who loved God very much and cared for His house.  When he became king, the temple was in very bad shape. It was very dirty and some of the walls were damaged. When Josiah saw the temple in such a poor state, he felt very sad.

  1. What is the name of the king?
  2. What was the state of the Lord's house?
  3. How did Josiah feel?

The king consulted the priest about what they should do. The priest said to bring a closed box with a hole in it (an opening) and to put the box beside the door of the temple. During that time, the people would enter in and put their alms in such a box until it was filled with money.

The king and the priest gathered a big sum of money from the people and then the workers and builders came to repair the house of God. They repaired the walls, the doors, and the windows until finally the temple became splendid once more.

  1. Are we like Josiah and care for the House of the Lord?
  2. Discuss what you can do to make the house of God clean and beautiful.
  3. Read the first chapter of the Book of Nehemiah.

What we learn

1) Sometimes we find that the SundaySchoolrooms are not clean. We see pieces of paper strewn around, chairs scattered around. What action should we take when we see this in God’s house? 2) Mention some of the things that need to be repaired in the church and think of how you can help the children of this age in doing the required work.

3) Ask the students if they would be willing to do the following as a group: clean the church, distribute hymn books, vacuum or sweep the floor, close the doors and the lights, etc. Divide the class into groups, and have them take turns performing these duties.

Discussion

1 - Follow up the story by talking about it with the children.

2 - Continue the discussion while they do the activity.
