The Bible
Part (1)
The Bible looks like one big book contains a lot of small books gathered together. It
is like a library full of books.
The word "Bible" Means "books."
When you say the word "Bible" you are talking about a lot of smaller _______________

The Bible is called "Bible" because it is not just one big book, but a lot of smaller __________
with one cover.
The Bible has ________ main parts, Old testament and New testament.

A list of the book of the Bible is found in every front page of the every Bible.

The Old Testament
Find the name of the second book in the Old Testament list.

Lay your pencil under the book of Ruth. In your Bible the book of Ruth begins on page

The New Testament
The New Testament Comes after the Book of Malachi, the last book in the Old Testament.
Note: In many Bibles the New Testament starts over again with page 1 and has another set of
page numbers.

Now find another New Testament book.

Note: Sometimes two or more books in the Bible have almost the same name, like 1 Samuel
and 2 Samuel. (We say "First Samuel" and "Second Samuel.")
The number in the name of each book helps you to tell them apart.
Look up the Old Testament book 1 Samuel.
We say "First Samuel."
Write the full name of the book:

Now look up the Book 2 Samuel.
We say "Second Samuel."
Write the full name of the book:

Now we know there are two books of Samuel.
There is a book in the New Testament called 1 Peter.
Remember we say "First Peter."

In the New Testament list you will see that more than one book has the word "John" in its name,

You are ready to learn how to find any part of any book in the Bible.
A Bible reference (pronounced R E F er ens) tells you where to look to find a part of any book
in the Bible.
When your servant ask to find part of the Bible, he will give a Bible refer_______
Your teacher would write the reference like this :
John 3:16
(He Would say, "John three, sixteen.")
The first thing a Bible reference tells you is which book in the Bible you are to look up.
In the reference John 3:16, the word "John" is the name of the ______________ you are to

The big number 1 means "Chapter 1 begins here."
Most of the books of the Bible have been divided into large parts called chapters.

In a Bible reference, the first number after the name of the book tells you which chapter to
look in.
