Story Time
Saul gotreadyand gathered his men for war against the Philistine. Days passed and no one from
eitherside dare to invade the other. Until one day, a campion went out of the camp of the Philistine, named
Goliath. He had a helmet of brass, and was wearing a shield, and he had greaves of brass upon his legs
and a target of brass between his shoulders. He was carrying a great spear and one manbearing a shield
went before him. He stood and cried to the army ofSaul's, "who daresto fight and kill me? Choose your
man and let him come down to me, if he is able to kill me, than we'll be your servants, but if I kill him you
allwill be our servants. This was for about 40 days, and no one from Saul's men dared to challenge with
this champion. What then?
One dayDavid went out fromthe field to see his brothers, he left the sheep withakeeper. He took
some food with him. He was eager to hear any good and comforting news about the army because he
loved his country very much. He saw and heard how bad this philistine champion talked to Saul's army
and also he started to laugh at them and also at God, but David was not afraid like the others. Although
the king promised his people that whoever would killthis championhe will let him marry his daughter and
he will also relieve him of any taxes. Also he will give him a lot of money. David asked, "who is that
agnostic Philistine who dares to make a joke of God." All the soldiers gathered around David, the very
brave boy. His brothers heard him and asked him, "why did you come? and how come you left the sheep
alone in the field?", in a verypolite way, David answered his brothers. "Father was worried about you and
he sent me to bring food.."
One soldierran to Saul and told him there is a youth in the camp who is not afraid at all from this
champion. Saul ordered them to bring him. David came and stood before the king, he said to him, "let no
man's heart fail because of this Philistine champion." King Saul asked, "What are you?", and David
answered, "I am a shepherd." The King said, "you'll not be able to fight this championbecause you're just
a young youth and he was trained to be a fighter. David answered the king, "I'm sure of God's power.
God is strongerthanany champion. King Saul said, "go and the Lord be with you," and he asked him to
wear the war uniform, but whenhe put it onhe couldn't move so he had to take it off. David walked in the
valleyand picked some stones and put themina shepherd's bag and his sling was in his hand and he drew
nearto the Philistine. When Goliath looked about and saw David he said, "I'll give your flesh to the fowls
of the air and the beasts of the field." David said, "you come to me with a sword, with a shield, and with
a spear but I come to you in the name of the Lord. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands and
I'll smite you and take your head from you to let all the people know that there is only one God in Israel.
David put his hand inhis bagand took a smoothstone and slung it and smote the Philistine but there
was no sword in his hand. He ran and stood upon the Philistine and took his sword and cut off his head.
When the Philistine people saw their champion was dead, they fled. God's people followed them to the
valley, killed and took everything that belonged to them , and they saw how God saved his people by
David's arm. David took Goliath's head and weapons to Jerusalem.
