Story Time

One dayNebuchad-nezzar, king of Babylon called the housekeeper of his palace and said to him,
bring me a group of children of Israel whom we captured, but they should be well favoured and skilful in
all wisdom and inknowledge and they had the ability to stand in my palace to serve me. The housekeeper
(master of the palace) said, Yes your Majesty I will, but please give me enough time to feed and teach
them. The king asked, “Howlong this will take? Is three years will be enough time?” “It is enough your
Majesty”, answered the housekeeper and bowed his head and went his away.
The housekeeper of the palace went searching among all the people for those smart children, he
found a lot among them were Daniel and his three friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. He took
them to the palace and told them that the king want them to serve in his palace, so they obeyed him. The
housekeeper gave them very nice cloth and let them live in the palace and when he brought them food
consisted of pig meat, wine and many other food, which was not allowed to them by the low of Moses.
They put in their heart not to spoil themselves by the King's food because it was against God well.
Daniel talked to the housekeeper of the palace saying: “We have to obey God commandments.
We will eat vegetables and lentils only , please don't urge us to eat from king's food.” The housekeeper
answered saying: “I fear the king may be he see your bodes skinny and your faces unhealthy and not like
the other children whose are of your sort, and you'll put me endanger, he may killme.” Daniel said: “Sir,
please try us for only 10 days, let us eat vegetables and lentils, and if we lose weight and if we became
weak so do whatever you want to do with us.” The housekeeper loved Daniel and his friends because they
were very polite and nice, so he agreed with them.
The ten days passed, the children looked better than before, they appeared fatter in flesh. The
housekeeper was astonished. Daniel said to him: “God taught us to stick with what we have, and the one
who sticks withGod words, God will give him health and peace.” For three years they ate only lentils and
vegetables and during this time the children learned all the Babylon language, handwriting and science.
When the time comes to stand before the king, they were well dressed and they learned how to give full
respect to the king. The king was very happy when he saw them, and when he asked them, they answered
him nicely. The king put out an order to let them work as permanent employees in his palace, the king loved
them very much.
