Lesson No. ( 13 ) Jesus Feeds The Five Thousands

References

Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44.

Notes for Servants

«         God does not perform a miracle unless it is necessary, and for the benefit of the believers.

«         The Jews asked Him once to perform a miracle, but He did not answer them, because they wanted to test Him only.

«         But when they were in the wilderness and were in need of a miraculous deed, Christ gave them enough food to eat and to be filled and have some food left.

Objectives

General: God's power and His care for us.

Specific:

The children will be able to ...

  1. Express how they feel when they are hungry and there is no food.
  2. Explain how the people felt before and after this miracle.
  3. Stand in order in the sanctuary, and anywhere else.

Bible Verse

"It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Act 20:35

Teaching Aids

Felt figures and flannel board.

Introduction

(1) Review last week's lesson.

(2) Who remembers the verse?

(3) Remind the children about the church occasions for the coming week.

(4) Concentrate on the principle of order and let the children be trained on order and cleanliness.  Draw their attention to one fact that every thing in the church should be done in order.  The Lord Christ gave food to the disciples and the disciples gave to the people.

(5) Teach the children to  respect and honour the priests and that we should kiss the priest's hand to get his blessing.

(6) Teach them to make the sign of the cross before they eat.

Story Time

A little boy went on a journey to see Jesus.  His mother gave him his lunch of five loaves and two fish.

Jesus talked to the crowd and his words were sweet.  By the end of the day, the people became hungry.  Jesus wanted to feed those people, but there was not enough food.  The little boy gave his lunch to Jesus.

The Lord blessed the five loaves and the two fishes and gave them to the disciples.  The disciples gave the people, they all ate and were filled.  They took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces leftover for themselves.

  1. Why didn't the Lord send the people away?
  2. What did the disciples say?
  3. How many loaves and how many fish were there?
  4. How many baskets were filled with broken pieces?

Discussion
