Lesson No. ( 49 ) The Qurban The Offering

References

Luke 22:7-20.

Notes for Servants

«         Eating is one of the activities that joins all people. It is a necessity of life, but do we remember that there are some families who can not find that very necessity of life?

«         As we partake of the body and the blood of Christ, do we consider his brothers and sisters, the needy, who are around us for our blessing and to open the gates of heaven for us?

Objectives

General: Help the children understand that through communion, Jesus will come into our body.

Specific:

The children will be able to ...

  1. Learn that through communion we are united in Christ because we all eat from the same Holy Body and drink from the same Holy Cup.
  2. Learn why we celebrate the mass on Sunday.

Bible Verse

"Let little children come to me."

Mark 10:14

Teaching Aids

  1. The picture of the Last Supper.
  2. A Qurban, the Qurban stamp.
  3. Colour a big drawing for a Qurban to make it clear.

Introduction

(1) Review last week's lesson.

(2) Who remembers the verse?

(3) Remind the children about the church occasions for the coming week.

(4) Do not refer to the body and blood for this concept will be discussed at a later age.

(5) Teacher should prepare the appropriate questions to emphasize the objectives during the lesson.

Lesson :

Explain to the children how we make the Qurban, or the Holy Bread, which is used in the Holy Communion.  While we make the Qurban, we read some psalms.  The Qurban has 12 crosses representing the 12 Disciples who are preached the Gospel to the whole world.

The five holes to express or stand for Christ passions: two for the nails in His hands, one for the nail in His feet, one for the crown of thorns on His head and one for the spear in His side.  These holes to remind us how much the Lord Jesus suffered for us.

Every time we partake in the holy communion we receive the Lord inside us to help us and protect us.

Exercise:

Our homes must take part in offering the oblation.  When we leave the church, we take a Qurban as a blessing for those who could not come to church.  We give the Qurban to the absentees and the sick.

Discussion

1 - Follow up the story by talking about it with the children.

2 - Continue the discussion while they do the activity.
