Lesson No. ( 17 ) Mary visits Elizabeth, The Birth of John

References

Luke 1:39-56.

Notes for Servants

★ Contemplate the humility of Mary and her love for Elizabeth. When she heard
that her cousin was pregnant, she went to visit and congratulate her, even
though, she was the mother of the Lord. Do you congratulate the children
on every happy occasion?
★ Contemplate John who was filled with the Holy Spirit when he was in his
mother's womb. You, too, have been filled with the Holy Spirit since your
childhood, so have you chosen the fellowship with God for a long time and
can you speak of the good things the Lord has given you?

Instruction

(1) Review last week's lesson.
(2) Who remembers the verse?
(3) Remind the children about the church occasions for the coming week.
(4) Servant should draw the children's attention to the importance of
sympathising with others, i.e. to acknowledge the presence and to respect
the feelings of other. When a friend celebrates his/her birthday we should
rejoice and when a neighbour is ill or a relative is in trouble we should not
play and be merry.
Story Time

When St. Mary heard from the angel that Elizabeth is pregnant and will
have a child, she forgot that she, also, was pregnant and will have the Lord Jesus.
She remembered one thing, that her cousin Elizabeth is an old lady (very old, like
a grandma). St. Mary decided to go to visit Elizabeth and share her joy with her
for the expected child. St. Mary stayed with Elizabeth for six months helping her
clean the house, cook her food and preparing what she needed for the new child.
After doing all that, she went back to her home.

Discussion

1 - Follow up the story by talking about it with the children.
