Story Time

Jesus told people that they should not only listen to what He was teaching, but they should also obey His words.

The countryside was hilly. People knew that the hot summer sun would dry up the rivers and creeks, leaving sandy ground where it would be easy to build homes. However, they also knew that during the winter season, rain storms would flood the rivers and valleys. The swift currents of water could easily smash the dwellings built on the sand. Knowing this, it would be “foolish” to build a house on the sand. The wiser plan would be to find a solid rock which could be used for the foundation of the home. It would take a lot more work to build on a rock foundation, but it was the best way to do the job. It was the wise thing to do.

Jesus told the people they could choose to be wise or foolish builders. A person who listened to Jesus but did not do as Jesus told Him was like someone who chose to build his house on the sand-foolish! The person who listened to Jesus and obeyed Him was like someone who worked hard  to build a house on a solid rock foundation-wise!

Discussion
