Story Time
Abraham believed in God. The Lord promised to give him children from Sarah. Many years passed and Sarah did not give birth to a child. She was tired of waiting. The two became very old; Abraham was over eighty. Sarah said to Abraham, "I have an idea, take Hagar my maid and marry her and the child she will give birth to will be mine." Abraham obeyed Sarah and married Hagar and they had a child called Ishmael. Hagar despised Sarah her mistress until she became furious and she complained to Abraham. Abraham was not pleased and realized that he had made a mistake because he did not wait for the promise of God to him.
1. What is the name of Sarah's maid?
2. What is the mistake made by Sarah and Abraham?
Hagar was afraid that Sarah might take her son. She ran away, but the Lord loves all the people whether rich or poor. Hagar and her son Ishmael were very thirsty; she wept. The Lord sent an angel to Hagar to guide her to a well and she drank and sat under a tree to rest. Then the angel said to her, "Hagar. The Lord sent me to you, go back and submit to your mistress and obey her." Hagar said, "I shall never go back. Sarah will beat me!" The angel said, "Do not be sad, Come with me and be patient."
1. Why did Hagar run away? Who met her in the desert?
2. Where did she sit? Where did she find water to drink?
3. What did the angel say to her? What is the name of her baby?
The words of the angel comforted Hagar and she went back to Sarah. She said to Sarah, "Forgive me." She sat and told Sarah and Abraham what happened to her in the desert. All those who heard the story were amazed and they realized that the Lord cares for all people.
1. What did Hagar say to Sarah?
2. Who shows kindness to the poor?
3. Who gives us food and clothes?
