Story Time

Who do you worship and love?

Abraham lived in the land of the Chaldeans in Haran with his family and relatives. He owned a large property and had servants and cattle. His native people were wicked, they worshipped idols, but Abraham worshipped God. The Lord called him: "Abraham, leave your country, your relatives and your family and I will send you to a new land."

This is difficult, isn't it? Will Abraham leave everything? Where will he go? Abraham did not even know the name of the place. Will the Lord leave him alone? No, the Lord will not leave Abraham, the Lord will go with him, bless him, and will give more than is expected. The Lord said to him, "I will make of you a great nation, I will bless you and make your name great."
1. Whom did the Lord call to leave his country?
2. What is the name of Abraham's country?
3. Why did the Lord ask Abraham to leave his country?

Abraham obeyed God, he gathered his servants and said to them, "Be ready to depart from this land." The men and women asked, "Where to?" Abraham said, "To a new land." They asked him, "Where is this land?" He said, "I do not know its name, but the Lord is with us and He will show us the land." The servants were afraid but Abraham trusted in God. Abraham took Sarah and Lot, his nephew, and left his country and his family. Abraham arranged the procession. The cattle and the servants went ahead. They were praying on their way and the Lord protected them from fierce animals, hunger and disease. They thanked the Lord and praised His Name.

Abraham arrived at the land of Canaan. The Lord appeared to Abraham and said, "I will give you this land; I am with you..." Abraham was happy because the Lord was with him. Abraham built an altar to express his thanks to God. He gathered big stones, put them in order one upon the other, prepared a sacrifice and put it on the altar. He prayed and said, "Lord, I thank you because you care for us." The natives knew that Abraham worshipped God and did not worship idols.

1. What is the name of the land?
2. Who of Abraham's relatives went with him?
3. What did he offer to the Lord?
