Story Time
Hannah took her son Samuel and went to see Eli the Priest and she reminded him of her promise to God to give him her son to serve in the temple when he was old enough and can eat and sleep on his own. Everyday Samuel used to go to the temple and pray and look after the pictures, candles, the censer, and incense. He grew up seeing all good things, and he was very happy to be in the temple.
Samuel learned to pray, and because he loved the temple so much his mother gave him to Eli the Priest, who taught him everything he should do. His mother used to visit him once a year and bring him a new coat. Samuel was a very good boy, he cleaned the temple. He would turn the lights off after everyone had left, he looked after the deacon's clothes and he also sets up their books. He did all these things beside his prayers. God loved him, the priest and the people loved him too.
One night after Samuel prayed and went to sleep, he heard a voice calling him, "Samuel ... Samuel," Samuel answered, "Here I am," he ran to Eli the priest and said, "You called me, here I am." Then Eli told him, "I didn't call you, go back to sleep Samuel." Again the Lord called Samuel, "Samuel ... Samuel." Again Samuel went to Eli and told him, "Here I am, you called?" Eli said, " I did not call you my son, go back to sleep." For the third time the Lord called Samuel, but Samuel did not know that God was calling him, Samuel ran to Eli and said, "You called me, and here I am." Then, Eli knew that the Lord was calling Samuel, then Eli told him to go back to bed and if he hears the voice again say, "Speak Lord for thy servant hearth." (Which means talk Lord for your servant is listening).
Samuel did what Eli told him to do. God told Samuel that He loved him very much and that He will make him a prophet. God also told him that he will punish all the bad people.
Samuel was so happy to hear God talking to him. He went back to sleep and had very beautiful dreams.
