In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, One God, Amen

Lesson No. ( 38 )

Elijah and the Widow

References

1 Kings 17.

Notes for Servants

When the widow gave a handful of flour to Elijah, the Lord blessed her flour. For the little you give it will be given to you a lot for the rest of your life.

We should ask ourselves, are we too ready to give the Lord the most valuable things? Our life, our possessions, and time.

Story Time

Once upon a time, there was a Prophet named Elijah (a Prophet means man of God.) He used to see the future and take messages from God to deliver to the people. Elijah came a long time before Jesus.

One time there was no rain, and the land was very dry. There was no corn or wheat or any plants. There was famine (a great hunger among people) and people did not have food to eat.

As we know God never leaves His children without food. So, God told Elijah to go to a small city where he will find a widow who would look after him. Elijah obeyed God and went to that city and met the widow, he asked her to give him food.

The widow told him that she had nothing left except a handful of flour and very little oil that will make a loaf of bread for her and her son. They will eat it and die. Elijah told her to make bread for him first and that God will bless her with flour and oil. She obeyed him and made him a loaf of bread first. She was surprised to see the jars of flour and oil were filled again. Each time she used the flour and the oil it will refill itself again.

Discussion

1 - Follow up the story by talking about it with the children.

2 - Continue the discussion while they do the activity.
