Story Time

A long time ago, there was a good man named Samuel.  He loved God and God loved him., because of his goodness God made him a prophet and gave him the power to see the future.

One day God told Samuel that King Saul has became very bad and was doing evil things.  "I want you to anoint another King," said the Lord.  Samuel went to Bethlehem where David lived with his father Jesse and his brothers;  David was the youngest among his brothers.  The people wondered why Samuel went to Jesse's home and they followed him ... he asked them to pray.

Samuel met Jesse and told him God would choose one of his sons to be the king.  Jesse showed seven of his son's to Samuel.  One was tall, one had a strong body, one had big muscles, but God did not choose any of these to be the king because God does not care if we are tall or short, strong or weak.  God looks inside our hearts to see how good we are.  Samuel asked Jesse about David, Jesse was surprised and told Samuel that David was just a little boy that looks after the sheep on the farm.  Samuel told Jesse to send for David.  When David came, Samuel put his hand on his head and anointed him with oil.  Then he put a crown on his head and made him king.
