Notes for Servants

Dear servant, do you really like to sit at Jesus's feet and listen to His word and learn from Him? Do you want to fill yourself with Him and be with Him all the time? Or are you like Martha ... busy with the material things, even in the service rather than God Himself?

His Holiness Pope Shenouda said, "Many people serve the house of the Lord, and a few serve the Lord of the house."

Story Time

Jesus and His disciples were traveling to Jerusalem to go to the Temple. On their way, Jesus decided to visit His friend Lazarus and his family. Jesus Loved Lazarus very much. Lazarus had two sisters Mary and Martha. Mary loved the Lord Jesus.

(Remind the students that Mary and Martha had a brother named Lazarus who died and was resurrected by our Lord Jesus after 4 days. tell the story briefly.)

The Lord and His disciples entered the house Lazarus and his sisters greeted Him. Then the two sisters got busy preparing food for dinner and cleaned the house for the guests to eat and have some sleep. While the two sisters were working Mary heard the Lord start to teach. At once she stopped working and went fast and sat down at his feet listening to His words.

( Our beloved Jesus is very kind. He came for us and saved us. We must love Him and listen to His words as Mary did. )

Martha continued to prepare the food and clean the house. After some time she was tired of working alone. She went to our Lord Jesus and complained that her sister left her working alone. The Lord Jesus told her that her sister did the right thing. When God speaks we should leave everything and listen. Then Jesus told her why don’t you come and join us and when we finish both of you can go and finish the work together.

If we choose to be without Lord Jesus, then He will be with us forever. He will give us happiness, and peace and fulfill all our needs. It is not right that while the Lord Jesus is in the house, to be busy with something else. We should remember while we are in the church, we must not be busy with our friends, but we should pray to our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us learn from Mary that when we pray read the Bible or come to church, we must not get distracted by anything or anyone else except the Lord Himself. Let us only pay attention to Him as Mary did.
